Ice flows movie #3

Video: Arctic Floating University Expedition, 27 June 2019

Moving melting icebergs
broken up
fractal, fissures, where to go?

When heading on to Svalbard in the Barents sea on a northwest direction, we encountered a vast expanse of sea ice. It was surprising to see the spiralling sea ice in this region. There were no traces on the radar when the ship became surrounded by the sea ice. Strong winds and currents had pushed the ice westwards. Usually, one might expect expansive sea ice more in northeast region. Eventually, the route to Svalbard shifted to the northeast, leading us into the open and more safe sea.

I call this manoeuvre as an unanticipated swerve of a journey-based extending choreography.
